Approach

Main content start

Our program aims to inspire and support entrepreneurship in disease prevention, health promotion, and health equity.

We partner with Stanford students, faculty, and scholars to translate their research into impactful real-world innovations. By fostering cross-sector collaborations and catalyzing scientific and commercial advancements in areas such as food and nutrition, community wellness, healthcare access, and the environmental impacts on human health, we are dedicated to driving transformative change in global health.

Our programs focus on three key areas to achieve our mission for health impact.

Research

We develop frameworks to translate research to impactful commercial opportunities (Publications and Case Studies).

Education

We inspire new entrepreneurs to partner with community and create innovations for societal health issues (BioE 375 Course and Workshops).

Translation

We support students, faculty, and scholars to build and scale high impact innovations (Student and Faculty Accelerators).

We support innovations that address behavioral, social, environmental, and structural issues that have significant impact on societal health outcomes.

Example Focus Areas

Food and Nutrition. Access to fresh, nutritious food remains a pressing issue for over 40 million Americans residing in food deserts. Food insecurity is exacerbated by waste and distribution challenges. We support innovations that enhance food availability while reducing waste, recognizing the profound connection between dietary choices and chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes. By promoting whole-food, plant-based diets and educating communities about nutrition, we aim to foster healthier societies.

Environmental Impact on Health. Climate change is increasingly linked to humanitarian crises, affecting vulnerable communities disproportionately. We strive to address the adverse impacts of environmental factors on health, including air quality, degradation, and access to green spaces. Our initiatives focus on reducing pollution and integrating sustainable practices to enhance community well-being and resilience against climate-related challenges.

Health Literacy and Education. Improving health literacy is crucial for enabling patients to effectively engage in their health care. We aim to build trust and enhance communication, particularly within underserved populations, to nourish an informed public combating misinformation. Our focus on education fosters better healthcare engagement and adherence to treatment plans crucial for managing chronic conditions.

Community and Social Wellness. Recognizing the profound impact of loneliness and social isolation on health, we are dedicated to fostering community connections. Our efforts address the mental health crisis exacerbated by disconnection, particularly among youth and vulnerable groups, promoting innovative solutions that create supportive social networks.

Healthcare Access. Systemic factors lead to significant disparities in healthcare access. We address these issues by fostering innovations that tackle barriers such as inadequate insurance, transportation insecurity, and systemic discrimination. Our goal is to enhance the availability and quality of care for marginalized populations, ensuring equitable access to essential health services.
